Of course, it happened on a Friday

After four and a half years of loyal (some would say blindingly loyal) service, my employers informed me Friday that I would be laid off, effective May 30. I'll be given a severance package that will keep a paycheck coming in until late July, but based on the expereinces of some other ex-employees, I don't think I'll have a job by then. Lump that with the monster property tax bill I had and Kat's continuing difficulties in finding a job, and I'm just having a bad time of it.

Comedy Central was showing Office Space this weekend, and I just had to laugh at some of the lines:

Peter Gibbons: You're gonna lay off Samir and Michael?
Bob Slydell: Oh yeah, we're bring in some entry-level graduates, farm some work out to Singapore, that's the usual deal.
Bob Porter: Standard operating procedure.
Peter Gibbons: Do they know this yet?
Bob Slydell: No! No, of course not! We find it's always better to fire people on a Friday. Studies have statistically shown that there's less chance of an incident if you do it at the end of the week.

See what happens when I don't update for a month?
