A ruined evening...averted

I had plans to go see The Big Lebowski tonight, big plans. I had the White Russians chilled, I had made up a big container of tomato mozzarella salad, had some hummus and some fresh Italian bread, and was going to meet a few co-workers.

Normally, I futz around for a little while after work, then get to the IMA between 6:30 and 7:00 and spend the next two or three hours baking in the sun waiting for it to get dark. Tonight, I thought I would be smart. I left work shortly after 5:00 and went straight to the gym. I had a nice workout, then showered and got to the IMA around 7:15pm be greeted by a sign saying "Film Sold Out."

Sure enough, they had stopped selling tickets for the movie. There must be some predetermined capacity for the IMA amplitheater, and they reached that well before 7:00. In the meantime, my coworkers got there earlier, bought their tickets, and I was left with a cooler of food and drink on the outside looking in.

To say I was disappointed was a gross understatement. Dejectedly, I headed home, figuring to stop at the video store, get the movie on DVD, and watch it at home by myself, eating and drinking..and then drinking some more.

(By the way, that is part of the reason I'm seeing a therapist. When I start to drink alone, I drink a lot)

However, as I perused the videos (and didn't find The Big Lebowski), my buddy Kevin gave me a call. He and his friends were going to see The Dark Knight in IMAX. They had an extra ticket, and wanted to know if I wanted to join them.

Oh, HELL yeah! I scooted home to stick the food in the fridge, then hightailed it to the theater. I had just seen The Dark Knight two days prior, but at a regular theater. Let me tell you, if you have any way of getting to an IMAX showing, do so. It is SO much better!

Hanging out with Kevin really lifted my spirits, and by the time it was showtime, I had all but forgotten about the cockup with The Big Lebowski. Now I'm at home, sober and planning to stay that way, nibbling at some tomato mozzarella salad. I'll have to do a few extra miles on the trail tomorrow, but that's OK. I had a great time tonight, and that's what's important.
